90s kids throwbacks

There was something that the Apartheid government did in 1950 called the Group Areas act. Basically, what it was designed to do was to separate the races in South Africa to certain areas and towns. For example, if you were Indian, Coloured or Black you would only be allowed to purchase a house in your assigned group area. You could not for instance purchase a house in a white area. We were also allocated different beaches. Hell, I remember from school textbook seeing a bench that had a sign that read "whites only". Imagine being locked up for sitting on a bench.

The reason for delving into the past is that looking back I would say the "Group Areas Act of 1950" was a good thing as it greatly influenced today what we know as Indian culture and it's fantastic. We didn't have to go far to visit our family or friends as they were just around the corner. The Government at that time missed the lesson of "Divide and Conquer". They Grouped us all together which in turn became our biggest strength. We all looked after one another and communities flourished.

The iconic memories most of us have is packing the car early Saturday morning and travelling down the to the South Coast. Famous beaches included Rocky Bay, Park Rynie, Warner Beach, and St. Michaels on Sea. First thing we did was get the skottel out and make a strong pot tea. who could forget the Jutland sandwiches with chillies and onions I'm off to make one now whilst writing this. I digress coming to back to point of this article, Indian culture is a fantastic culture we will pack food and go, we are not ashamed whoever is watching we are who we are.
